Care of the Elderly

Prevention is better than cure at any age, but especially as we get older

Care of the Elderly

Keeping active is so important as we get older. Our mantra at Physiotherapy Works that prevention is better than cure is just as relevant to older people. By remaining as active as possible, flexibility can be maintained and improved. Our services for the older person are designed to help them retain their mobility and therefore their independence for as long as possible.

Our Chartered Physiotherapists are qualified in the following areas of elderly care

  • Assessments of fall risk
  • Assessments of the home environment and recommended alterations Mobility aids
  • Recommendation and provision of equipment to improve Activities of Daily Living(ADL) and enhance independent living, eg hip protectors, long-handled shoe horns, key-turners
  • Creation of safe, individually tailored exercise plans, and the provision of flexibility classes for the elderly
  • Stroke rehabilitation, from acute stage onwards (link to neurological page)
  • Post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation eg. after hip and knee replacements
  • Respiratory care for immobile patients, patients with COPD – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, chronic chest infections etc

At Physiotherapy Works, we understand the difficulties that travel presents to some of our less-mobile patients.
