Fran graduated with a BSc Physiotherapy Honours degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1996 and completed her Masters in Physiotherapy Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy in 2009. Her dissertation looked at low back pain in school aged adolescents. Fran worked in the private sector in Johannesburg, SA for a number of years before going to the UK and working in the NHS for four years. In 2004 on returning to South Africa she opened Fran Lewis Physiotherapy Practice. In 2009-2010 she worked part-time for the Wits Physiotherapy Department as a clinical supervisor, and was an external examiner in 2013. She is a qualified complete decongestive therapist, and has completed her APPI Pilates mat work training.
Fran has two published research articles. The first article published her Masters dissertation and the second looked at the concurrence of headache and temporomandibualr dysfunction. A third article on the effects of chronic pain on laterality judgements is due for publication later this year.
Her clinical areas of interest include chronic pain, upper and lower quadrant biomechanical assessment and treatment, headaches, adolescent neck and back pain. She has a special interest in treating breat cancer patients working on regaining full mobility and lymphedema prevention. She treats oedema related to lymphedema, chronic venous insufficiency, and following injury.
She has completed a number of half marathons, and marathons including the Two Oceans ultra marathon and Comrades ultra marathon. Fran joined the clinic in February 2017, on relocating to Ireland from South Africa.
